Homemade Fudge

To accompany my lovely sugar cookies on my goody plates, I made some nice, rich, homemade fudge.


BTW, don’t my plates look pretty?!


You will need:

  • 1 C evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 C sugar
  • 1 C butter
  • 10 1/2 oz mini marshmallows
  • 1 C semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 pkg milk chocolate chips
  • opt: chopped nuts (walnuts are my favorite!)

In a very large pot, combine milk, vanilla, sugar, and butter over medium heat. Stir until mixture boils, then boil for 8 mins, stirring regularly.

Meanwhile, put your marshmallows and chocolate chips in a very large mixing bowl (and nuts, if desired). Set aside.

Once you sugar mixture has boiled long enough, pour over marshmallows and chocolate. Stir until marshmallows and chocolate have completely melted.

Pour into a greased 9×13 pan. Let cool in the fridge (this will take a couple hours. Cut up into small squares.

Holiday Sugar Cookies

Happy Finals Week!


It’s the most wonderful time of the year…or it will be when this week is over and we can all breathe a sigh of relief that this semester is DONE.

I’m taking my holiday goody plates around today, don’t they look pretty?!


I just had to use a classic combination – fudge and home-decorated sugar cookies.


These sugar cookies are special because they stay nice and soft! And they’re so fun to decorate. My husband helped me cut them all out and then we were up till after 1 in the morning decorating them. Well, mostly it was me that did the decorating. Or all me. But Tyler had a lot of fun rolling and cutting the dough!

You will need:

  • 1 C softened butter
  • 2 C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 C vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 5 C flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar

Cream together butter and sugar, then add everything else. Mix well until a soft dough firms.

Roll out on a clean surface to 1/4″ to 1/2″ thick. I found that my thicker cookies stayed softer.

Cut out cookies with any shaped cookie cutters!

Transfer cut cookies to greased baking sheet and bake at 350 F for 8-10 minutes, or until the bottoms of the cookies are lightly golden’brown.

Decorate! Use different colored frostings, sprinkles, chocolate chips, and little candies. Spread the love. 🙂
